Martyn and Margaret remember a brief, sentimental journey on the Ganges River to mark the 70th Anniversary of India's Partition.
Boatloads of wood for the funeral pyres
Seventy years ago, on August 15th 1947, the great country of India was partitioned into three: the face and trunk of the elephant remained India, but one ear became West Pakistan, the other East Pakistan (now Bangladesh). Born on the eve of this iconic division, Martyn marks the anniversary with a short, but sentimental, return to one of India´s most holy places.

Landy happily back 'on the road' and parked at the Coombs House Inn in Apalachicola Florida after an adventure of its own!
Leaving Texas, the Land Rover experienced some transmission problems and had to be left for repairs at a garage in Lake Charles, Louisiana, miraculously situated within a few miles of the breakdown. Feeling confident that the vehicle was in good hands, we rented a car and spent a few days exploring New Orleans and environs for Marg's birthday and then returned to take up the Land Rover adventure where we left off.
