Passat sailing in Ladysmith Harbour
Highlights of 2009 summer included a trip to US waters and the wooden boat mecca of Port Townsend, where Martyn and Margaret saw
Passat for the first time after over 25 years in 2005 and lead them to purchase her and start the present restoration. Upon returning to Canadian waters,
Passat and crew enjoyed cruising the southern Gulf Islands and after picking up youngest daughter, Leah, in Nanaimo continued on to the Sunshine Coast and a family reunion in Buccaneer Bay, Thormanby Island and a celebration of their 40th wedding anniversary.
Continuing north, they enjoyed the coast up as far as Sointula before heading south to participate in the celebration for the restoration of the original pilot cutter, Carlotta at Finn Cove (Lund). The summerīs most memorable moments were a very fast passage down Johnstone Strait (about 10 knots under bare poles!), meeting with family and friends in various venues for celebrations and
Passatīs earning the award for best sail at the Vancovuer Wooden Boat Festival in late August. The
Passat is now moored in Sidney and enjoying southern Vancouver Island as her home.
Martyn and Margaret have been away in Mexico,Guatamala, Costa Rica, Panama and Ecuador since October 10th returning to dear
