Morning has broken at our cottage, Gaudeamus
After two wonderful months in Nova Scotia, Martyn and Margaret are back to the west coast again. This time we are en route to the Los Angeles area, where Martyn takes up a new position as Consulting Executive Director of the sail training organization, Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI), later this month. We are excited to direct this organization as it begins its next 20 years. There are several types of programs including the Tops´l Program, a unique experience specifically aimed at taking inner city teenagers to sea. Many of these young people have never even seen the ocean or been out of the concrete jungle. The rewards of this program have been phenomenal and we hope to help them grow into the next stage.
Our stay in Nova Scotia began in mid-September when we moved into our friends', Mary and John Wright's, seaside cottage named
Gaudeamus. During our time there we came to love the areas around the LaHave River and the towns of Bridgewater, Lunenburg, Mahone Bay and Liverpool. With daily viewing of many lovely century-old houses and enjoying new friends, it is with some regret that we have to report that we have not purchased a new home at this time. We have been very attracted to several homes/properties but, since our contract in Los Angeles is for at least a year, we decided that it would be best to wait until our consulting time is completed.
We are currently in Victoria for a couple of days to visit with friends and family, attend an appointment with Marg´s orthopedic surgeon and pick up the Land Rover. Then we commence the drive down the west coast of the USA to California. We´ll keep you posted.
