Clarks Creative Canvas & Rope Work

We are able to offer a wide range of products and only a few are listed here ... so, if you don´t see something that suits your needs please email us to discuss your requirements.
Please note that each piece is handcrafted from natural, synthetic or recycled materials when available.

Rope Mats

The fancy oval mat illustrated here is made from either ¼” or ½“ diameter rope and consist of an ocean plat knot surrounded by a Flemish coil. They make great door mats (especially in the larger sizes) or eye-catching table centrepieces.
Our material of choice is pure Manila rope made from natural fibres which are biodegradable, non-polluting and earth-friendly.  Also available in white cotton (recommended for tables only), black polypropylene and coloured recycled lobster pot line “in season”.

Prices and Measurements
¼“ line, pure Manila, approx. 21” x 14½”: $75.00
½“ line, pure Manila, approx. 27” x 19”: $95.00

Shipping extra, if required.
Please ask for quotes in cotton, polypropylene or other materials.

Block Mats

Traditionally used to keep a vessel´s blocks (or pulleys) from thumping the deck, these mats make attractive place settings for dinnerware or as “hot mats”.
Combined with the oval rope mat (on the cover) as a centrepiece, these block mats used for the plates will transform your table into a real conversation piece.

Prices and Measurements
¼ “line, pure Manila, approx. 10 ¼” diameter: $18.00 each.

Shipping extra, if required.

Monkey´s Fists

At the end of a light line (to which a ship´s heavy dock line was attached) was the monkey´s fist knot weighted inside with a lead ball to carry it easily ashore when thrown.

Today, we have a variety of modern uses for the monkey´s fist: hung from a door handle it makes an attractive and effective door stop;  in smaller sizes monkey´s fists make unusual ornaments for key chains, pull switches, Christmas trees, party favours, serviette holders;  and (formed around a bell) a favourite pet toy.

Prices and Measurements
Door Stop monkey´s fist: ¼“ line, pure Manila, 3 ½ “ dia. approx. 11” long.
Price: $12.00 each or $60.00 for 6.
Small monkey´s fist: 1/16“, white cotton, 1” diameter, approx. 12” long.
Price: $5.00 each or $25.00 for 6.

Shipping extra, if required.
We can quote for coloured line (cotton) and pet toys.

Canvas Bags

We have enjoyed making a variety of canvas bags from simple shopping totes (with open tops) to duffle bags (with grommets and line) to sophisticated ´parachute´ bags (with numerous compartments and zippers to close them) for long distance travel.

Our preference is to use a natural canvas, treated for moisture; leather for chafe protection; and brass grommets where needed. A ship´s laundry bag made by us of these materials is still going strong some forty years later!

Price and Sizes
Each bag is hand-made for a specific purpose and priced on a ´time and materials´ basis.  We will quote on any project you may have in mind but to give you an idea of prices: a canvas tote measuring 17” x 15” plus handles will start around $75.00; a ´sea bag´ like the one illustrated, 18”x36”, complete with an over-the-shoulder strap, grommets and line (ideal for camping, travelling or boating) will cost around $125.00.

Other Products

We create sail covers, deck awnings, barbecue covers or special projects requiring long-lasting canvas and rope work.

Please ask for quotes on a ´time and materials´ basis.
